Questions about standings

I noted a few issues with the standings as I was getting them ready for publishing. I noticed the Mens A race was off in the results for the final race. I believe Dan finished second. Hank Campbell was also listed twice, so I combined his totals and it moved him to 3rd.

Please take a look at note any other things that look out of whack. Thanks.

Final standings are in!!

Timing chips: your thoughts?

I got an email last night from a concerned racer who disagreed with the notion that the timing chips were the best method of scoring at the races. He was concerned with the fact that, if attached to the bike, a bike swap would eliminate you from the scoring.

I, in fact, had to make a bike swap at the state championship race and didn't for one instant think about my chip. Thankfully I had taken to tucking it in the leg of my shorts, mostly so I wouldn't forget it and take it home by accident. I know other racers who had attached them to their helmets or dropped them in a jersey pocket were not scored correctly because they were too high off the ground. Many found that attaching them to a shoe gave the best results.

While the data is very accurate when done correctly, it should not be considered infallible. A hand count of racers' laps should always accompany the timing system. I haven't heard of any major issues this season, but with the sport growing quickly, the number of participants is only going to grow.

What are your thoughts on the timing chips?

Livin' the dream in Belgium

Brandon Dwight of VeloNews and his buddy Greg Keller have been living the dream this winter. They packed up and headed across the pond to Belgium to race in Master's World Championships. Sounds like they had an awesome time and had some successful racing too! Check it out at Mud and Cowbells.

Send us your bike porn!

[via Flickr]

Nothin' keeps the 'cross love burning deep inside us during the off season like gawking at sexy cyclocross steeds online. Dugast tubulars. Gutted SRAM levers. Deep section carbon wheels. You know, the good stuff.

I know many of you have cool, unusual, special, lightweight or one-off bikes you've been pimping at the races this year. Or maybe your buddy has one you've been drooling over. Either way, email some pics and specs and we'll show it off for everyone to see.

Let's talk Largo

I know most of you haven't even recovered from the wide-open Sarasota race yet but it's time to look ahead to the final course on the 07-08 calendar: Largo. The new course layout should level the playing field between the local racers and out-of-towners.

The course IS AT A NEW LOCATION this year. If you need the 411, you know where to find it. Or, download the race flyer [.pdf].

But this is the good stuff: Check out the beeeeee-utiful course map online here. This course has got it all. Long straights. Twisty wooded sections. Steep hills. Off-camber madness. I can't wait!

Rumor is a certain local cyclocross fanatic will be back in town to show us what he's learned in North Carolina.....

Stay tuned for more.
